This Privacy Policy explains how Device Tracker ("the App," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use our iOS application. We are committed to your privacy and handle all data in accordance with Apple's App Store Review Guidelines and applicable privacy laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
By using the App you acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the App.
The App uses your device's Bluetooth hardware to discover nearby Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices and estimate their proximity. During a scan the App reads:
This data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to our servers or any third party. It is held in memory only for the duration of a scanning session and persisted locally in iOS UserDefaults solely to power the "My Devices" saved-device list.
The App stores the following preferences locally on your device using iOS UserDefaults:
None of these preference values leave your device.
The App offers auto-renewable subscriptions. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment details (credit card numbers, billing address, etc.).
We use Adapty to manage subscription status. Adapty may receive limited technical data necessary to verify your subscription — typically an anonymised device identifier and purchase receipt metadata. Adapty does not receive your name, email address, or payment information. You can review Adapty's privacy practices at adapty.io/privacy.
| Data | Purpose | Stored where |
|---|---|---|
| BLE device names & RSSI | Display device list, estimate proximity, play audio beeper feedback | On-device only (memory / UserDefaults) |
| Saved device settings | Restore your "My Devices" list and notification preferences across launches | On-device only (UserDefaults) |
| App preferences | Remember language and distance unit between sessions | On-device only (UserDefaults) |
| Subscription status | Determine whether premium features are unlocked | On-device (UserDefaults) + Adapty servers |
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with any third party for their own marketing or commercial purposes.
If you enable "Notify when Found" or "Notify when Lost" for a saved device, the App schedules local notifications on your device. These notifications are generated and delivered entirely on-device by iOS — no data is sent to a server to trigger them. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings → Device Tracker → Notifications.
The App requests the bluetooth-central background mode so that proximity
monitoring can continue when the App is in the background. This access is used solely to
detect and notify you about your saved devices; no data collected in the background is
transmitted off the device.
| Service | Purpose | Privacy Policy |

We vet third-party services to ensure they meet appropriate privacy standards. We do not integrate advertising networks, social SDKs, or analytics platforms.
All data stored by the App lives in iOS UserDefaults on your device. You can delete it at any time by uninstalling the App. Uninstalling removes all locally stored preferences, saved devices, and cached subscription state.
Adapty may retain anonymised subscription receipt data for a limited period in accordance with their own retention policy. Contact Adapty at support@adapty.io for data deletion requests related to their service.
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the address below and we will take steps to delete such information promptly.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data held about you, or to restrict or object to certain processing. Because we store data only on your own device (with the exception of anonymised subscription metadata held by Adapty), most rights can be exercised simply by uninstalling the App or adjusting iOS settings. For any remaining requests, contact us at the address in Section 11.
California residents (CCPA): We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
EEA / UK residents (GDPR): Our lawful basis for processing subscription status is the performance of a contract (to deliver the service you purchased). All other processing is strictly necessary for the app to function and takes place on-device only.
Because personal data is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to our servers, security of that data is governed by iOS's own security model (data protection, sandbox isolation, and secure enclave). We do not operate any backend infrastructure that stores identifiable user data.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be indicated by an updated "Last updated" date at the top of the page. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your data, please contact us:
We aim to respond to all privacy-related inquiries within 30 days.
